Rivers varsity law (500 level) student stabbed to death

A 24 years old student named Matilda Mark was stabbed to death in her private apartment outside the school campus.
Matilda Mark was also a ballet dancer, who performed at the Salvation Ministry’s headquarters in Port Harcourt during the 57th birthday celebration of the church’s founder.
It was explained that the killers broke into the victim’s apartment at night and allegedly raped her before stabbing her to death, a development that forced most of her course mates to shun classes on Tuesday.
It was learnt that Matilda lived in the apartment with other female students, but on the night of the incident, she was alone.
The source stated, “Her killers broke into her room near the Rivers State University campus’ main gate. The compound is close to other houses; we only knew her as Matilda and she was 24 years old. She danced ballet at the Salvation Ministry during our papa’s 57th birthday celebration.
“When the news broke on Tuesday, her friends and other final year law students could not attend classes due to the shock. I heard that Matilda lived with two other female students, who were not around on the night of the incident.”
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, told one of our Correspondents that the body of the deceased had been recovered and deposited in a mortuary.
Omoni stated that while investigation was ongoing to fish out those behind Matilda’s murder, it had not been confirmed that the victim was raped before being stabbed to death.
The PPRO said, “That she was raped is not the true reflection of what happened. But I can confirm that a young woman of about 24 years of age, who was staying off campus, was killed on Tuesday by assailants.
“The assailants stabbed her to death. We have recovered the corpse and it is in the mortuary. We have spoken to her family and investigation is ongoing, as the matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department.
“No arrest has been made so far.”
